Melbourne Madness with my Mum

What I love about Melbourne central is the ease with which you can get around. The inner circle Tram line is free and you can hop on and off as you need to. Mum and I did a circuit loop on an older style tram first to get our bearings as we planned where we would eat on our first night. Melbourne is certainly the food mecca with so many restaurants and cafes to eat at.

Queen Victoria Market can be a day experience on it's own. The variety of products, fruit and veg, Australian made souvenirs, buskers and restaurants is so numerous we spent many hours here.

One of the stalls on our list of places to visit was Curds and Whey, a shop specialising in cheese as I had read about an Italian blue cheese ripened in chocolate liquer, then rubbed in cocoa and decorated with chocolate chips. Needless to say that with a price tag of $100+ per kilo we only ordered  a sliver, but it was delicious.

With our travels through town we passed Her Majesties Theatre and decided to see the show "Kinkyboots". It was beyond wonderful, the dancing was superb, actors funny and a story line that was delightful.

Walking along the Yarra River we were entertained with Food markets and buskers. South Bank provides a huge number of eateries where you can sit back and watch the local colour go by.

Our preferred accommodation was Treasury on Collins. Our apartment had cooking facilities which we didn't use, a large lounge space separate from the bedroom and a large bathroom including laundry. The mezzanine lounge provided breakfast and snacks throughout the day and our booking even included a wine and cheese bit each evening in the bar area. Doesn't get much better than that!

One of our day trips was a boat ride down the Yarra to Williamstown. There are a number of services from South Bank with different times and pricing. It was fascinating to see the development along the river front and then arrival at the small town for lunch. Williamstown has a lot of boutique shops and restaurants to keep your overlay time busy.

I couldn't help noticing as we were walking around Melbourne that many people were carrying pretty green bags and wondered to myself what was so popular. Well, we found it in one of the little alleyways, Doughnut Time! obviously an institution in this town. At $6 a doughnut it is quite an experience.

Another plus for this great town is the walking distance to sports arenas and live shows. Definitely an Entertainment City!

St Kilda is famous for it's stunning beach, shops, laid back feel and cakes! So many stores offering local and european fare.
